The highly destructive eruption of Vesuvius Volcano in Italy in 1906 was witnessed by the British military attaché to the Italian government: Lt. Col. Sir Charles Delmé-Radcliffe. His detailed and extremely valuable report, which is now extremely difficult to access, is reproduced in full and without editorial alternation. The reprinted paper is preceded by editorial comments by the authors, footnotes are used to define units of measurement, to explain terms used in the manuscript and people mentioned by Colonel Delmé-Radcliffe.
